To realize your identity in Christ there must be a conception which takes place in your spirit, mind and heart of the principle that you are united with Him. In the world we have been indoctrinated with a mindset of merits and de-merits, which makes us prone to fall back upon the system of the Law of Moses. This law, which was supposed to be holy and spiritual, was turned into a ravenous, unappeasable religious spirit in the hands of fleshly men to become something whereby to measure our spirituality. The Law however, was instituted by God as a tutor for Israel unto Christ. By mingling the pure Gospel of Salvation through Grace and faith with the merit system of the Law, we lose the power of the Gospel and the peaceful walk of grace with God. Active identification with the cross of Christ brings death to the flesh. Our flesh is responsive to the favour of man, but it is only our faith that pleases God and keeps us identified with the cross. We need to stay dead to dead works and the law, unless we become an enemy to the cross and truth and fall from grace. Grace is unmerited, but also an enablement to live a life of victory, freedom and blessing, which is our inheritance through the cross. Let us remain on the cross and proclaim with Paul that “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”
