It’s not just about mental assent or verbal confessions. The apostle John, who heard these words directly from Jesus, later wrote, “This is love for God: to obey his commands” (1 John 5:3).

Consider this story: A pastor was challenged by God to practice immediate, unquestioning obedience. One of the first tests was giving away his only car. Though difficult, he obeyed. Later, during a church service, God prompted him to speak in an unknown language. Despite feeling awkward, he obeyed, and a woman in the congregation was deeply touched. It turned out he had spoken in her native Ethiopian dialect, confirming God’s presence to her in a powerful way.
This same pastor later experienced divine protection when he obeyed an urgent prompting to duck, narrowly avoiding an attempt on his life. These experiences highlight the power and importance of immediate obedience in the kingdom of God.
Entering the kingdom is about more than just being born again. It’s about living a life fully surrendered to God’s will. It’s about seeking first His kingdom and His righteousness, trusting that everything else will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33).
The kingdom of God is both present and future. It was inaugurated through Christ’s first coming and will be fully consummated at His return. As believers, we’re called to be citizens of this kingdom, ambassadors representing Christ on earth. We’re meant to demonstrate an alternative way of living, filled with truth, righteousness, and glory.
In practical terms, this means obeying God’s word without delay. When we feel prompted to forgive someone, give to someone in need, or pray for healing, we should act immediately. This kind of obedience opens the door to greater spiritual experiences and effectiveness in our Christian walk.
Remember, the kingdom of God is not just about going to heaven one day. It’s about bringing heaven to earth now, through our obedience and surrender to God’s will. It’s about allowing God’s rule and reign to manifest in our lives and through us to the world around us.
As we yield to God’s sovereignty, we become vessels through which His power can flow. We may see miracles, healings, and lives transformed as we operate in kingdom authority. But it all starts with obedience – immediate, unquestioning obedience.
